Visionary Landscapes is a design firm that has been operating in Arizona and the greater Southwestern region since 2014 where it has established a reputation for excellence in residential landscape design. The firm is led by Dustin Walker, a landscape designer and contractor, who holds a degree in landscape architecture from the College of Design at North Carolina State University complemented with a background in theory, historic preservation, and interior design based on coursework at Savannah College of Art and Design.

Dustin's focus is on creating beautiful and functional outdoor spaces that blend into the vernacular of the Sonoran Desert. He achieves this by using native and water-wise planting schemes that are perfectly suited to the arid climate of Arizona and which situate his designs within the greater context of focused sustainability. Whether working on the interior or exterior spaces of a project, Dustin's aim is to create a cohesive and harmonious design that enhances the natural beauty of the landscape. With a focus on design theory, he emphasizes the significance of storytelling, sense of place, history, and tradition through designs that not only spark debate and conversation, but which also encourage thoughtful consideration of new viewpoints. Creating spaces that enhance a client's immediate living environment, engage the senses, and prompt introspection, all within a context of preserving and respecting not only natural, but also cultural and historical resources, is the end goal.
We take the time to understand each client's unique needs and preferences and work closely with them throughout the design process to ensure that the final result exceeds their expectations. Whether you're looking to create a peaceful retreat in your backyard or a stunning outdoor entertaining space, Visionary Landscapes has the expertise and creativity to bring your vision to life.
Sustainable landscape design continues to gain momentum in the industry, especially in the Southwest. The ongoing incorporation of native plant species, which demand less water and maintenance while positively impacting local wildlife and pollinators, is also prevalent. However, integrating these plants into modern designs and vignettes is casting a new light on their versatility within any landscape scheme or style. Furthering this trend is the increased use of native and local materials that not only resonate with the language of the landscape, but which also support local artisans and tradespeople. As a practice, Visionary Landscapes always seizes opportunities wherein a material can be repurposed, upcycled, or altered to benefit another element of the project. This practice of recycling materials benefits projects both aesthetically and economically, reduces landfill waste, and provides a renewed purpose for materials. We are constantly on the lookout for local goods and handmade artifacts that benefit the local design and manufacturing community.
